Great ideas can come from anywhere. What makes us truly creative is how we explore new possibilities for everyday use. To solve problems, you have to remove yourself from the process. You have to become the person for whom the work is being done. It’s this idea of understanding the rituals that take place—and then relating them to our ideas and buildings.

Our true modernist core goes beyond a certain design style. More than anything else, we are modern in our belief that ideas and buildings can—and should—better society. These are the principles that Larry Perkins and Phil Will established when they founded Perkins+Will. It’s what they believed then, and it’s how we practice today.

While we’ve long taken the lead on sustainable design, we welcome the challenge of sustainability as a huge opportunity. It’s not enough to lead today. We have to lead for tomorrow by taking a holistic approach to sustainable design. This means sustainability in how we operate, create and inspire others.
